Introduction

Nono is the life story of ‘Nono’ the caterpillar who becomes aware of her conditioning and declares her right to become a butterfly. Nono represents every individual who has been influenced over the ages by the controllers within society for religious, political and financial gain. The story of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly is a metaphor for an individuals declaration of freedom and independence against the slavery and oppression of unexamined pressure and influence. Through Nono the puppeteers speak about the collective influence of religious belief, consumer advertising, political ideology and technological development on the unique inner spirit of the individual.
